College Title: A Study on Impact of Foreign Trade in India in The Post Liberalisation Era Abstract: Foreign trade makes a significant contribution to the economy growth of a country. The policy regime in India with regard to liberalization of the external sector has brought tremendous changes in India’s foreign trade. So, the present study attempts to analyse the trend and composition of foreign trade since 1991 and also to analyse the impact of trade on the economic growth of India. The study reveals that though the total exports and imports both have increased but the growth rate of imports is more than the growth rate of exports. It is also found that manufactured goods compose major portion of the export goods while petroleum and crude products contribute major portion of the imported goods. The study also reveals that import has a negative influence on economic growth while export and economic openness are positively related with the economic growth of India. The literature on foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth generally points to a positive FDI and Growth relationship. However, very few studies offer direct tests of causality the two variables. In theory, economic growth may induce FDI inflow, and FDI may also stimulate economic growth. This paper adds to the literature by analyzing the existence and nature of these causal relationships. The present analysis focuses on India, where growth of FDI has been the most pronounced. The Co-integration analysis suggested that there is a long-run equilibrium relationship. The results of Granger causality test showed that there is a causal relationship between the examined variables. Economic growth and FDI appear to be mutually reinforcing under the open-door policy. India ranks second next to China in groundnut production. During 2015-16 groundnut crop is cultivated in India about 4.56 million hectares, with the total production of 6.77 million tonnes with the average yield of 1486 kg/hectare. The area under groundnut shows declining trend over the years due to various reasons. Groundnuts being the major edible oil seed crop in India, planners are concerned with the declining area. Hence this study is carried out to find the status of groundnut area, production and yield in India. The present study was carried on based of the secondary data collected from the various reports of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics. The study revealed that, the trend values of groundnut except for area, production and yield shows an increasing trend. The compound growth rate of area of groundnut is showing negative trend, whereas production and yield shows a positive trend with one percent and 3.26 percent respectively. This reveals that the yield is contributed more than by the production than by area. The compound growth rate of area, production and yield of groundnut of major producing states in India reveals that except Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan all other states are showing a negative trend. Regarding the Production of groundnut, the states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh shows a positive trend. While considering the yield of groundnut in Gujarat, Maharastra and Tamil Nadu shows positive trend during the reference period. A Comparison between Public Sector Banks’ (PSBs) Median Benchmark Interest Rates and Repo Rate during 2011-2017 Abstract: With the opening up of Indian financial markets and with global economic forces comes into play, there is much deviation in Reserve Bank of India's (The Central Bank) monetary policy frame-work. Since the implementation of Liquidity Adjustment Facility, monetary policy in India has undergone a significant shift. The conventional monetary policy of controlling CRR and SLR has given way to concepts like Repo and Reverse Repo. But how these policy rates can evoke the desired action from Banks so as to effectively transmit the policy rates to bank lending? An empirical study of the rate pass-through (the effect of policy rates on bank lending rate) might bring an insight into the influential power of the repo rate in the contemporary monetary policy and specific reactions of Public Sector Banks to these policy rates. This paper examines the relationship between benchmark rates and repo rate and founds that the newly introduced system of benchmarking (MCLR) has improved the rate pass through. It means that old currencies including notes and coins must be restored with new ones or completely new currency can be introduced like Rs. 2000 note which was not available earlier. This was a gigantic and precise decision taken as some opportunely said it is a Masterstroke or a Surgical Attack on black money. As a result plenty of citizens in the country has shifted from hard cash to plastic money (Debit/credit cards). There has been a acceleration in the use of credit and debit cards succeeding the demonetization initiative. There is a huge future for use of plastic money in India. Distinct from providing strengthened convenience to the customers, plastic money can also ensure transaction secrecy and integrity to the customers. There have been issues of concern with circumstances such as the duplication of credit cards, robbery of ATM cards. For the growth of plastic cards in the Indian market more improved customer service security should be provided by plastic card issuers. This study mainly concentrates on impact of demonetization on increased use of plastic money during the pre and post demonetization period. The sample selected consisted of consumers including students, working professionals, government officials, home makers and senior citizens.
