Abstract

This research paper sheds light on the role and portrayal of male domination in literature across various borders and spectrums. “The Color Purple” represents the very bottom structure of society. It underpins common themes that serve as catalysts in literature, highlighting the sufferings of women and the dominance of male characters. Set against the backdrop of male domination, this article also mentions that women are subjected to torture in the name of coercion. It suggests that this type of coercion often comes from those whom they trust the most. In this story, Celie is brutally sexually abused by her father. When a girl child is subjected to such abuse by the very person she should be able to trust, she becomes traumatized and struggles to overcome it.This paper also reveals the repressed state of women and their resilience in the face of physical and psychological challenges. It discusses how they endure physical and mental suffering as a result of sexual harassment.
