Thirukkural and Artificial Intelligence: The Thirukural.AI Website
Abstract
Tamil literature has consistently evolved over centuries, adapting itself to changing times by embracing new forms and contents. From ancient palm leaf manuscripts to modern print editions, translations, and critical researches, the Tamil language has reached a sophisticated stage of growth. Among its classical treasures, the Thirukkural holds a preeminent position. Since its first print publication in 1812 by Tanjai Gnanaprakasar, the Thirukkural has undergone a monumental journey. This era also marked the beginning of its global outreach through translations by scholars like F.W. Ellis. In the 20th century, the Thirukkural expanded its reach through academic curricula, seminars, and conferences. Transitioning into the 21st century, its dissemination shifted towards the digital landscape, encompassing websites, blogs, e-books, and social media platforms. It further evolved into inclusive formats such as Braille, sign language videos, and podcasts. Today, the Thirukkural has integrated with the cutting-edge technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This paper explores the development of the dedicated platform “Thirukural. AI”, analyzes
its current implementation methods, and suggests essential enhancements to optimize the
application of Thirukkural in the AI era.
