Prosodic Studies: Accomplishments and Future Directives
Abstract
The venerable Tamil language boasts a rich heritage of literature and grammar. Throughout its evolution, both literary and grammatical forms have undergone significant transformation and advancement. This paper delineates scholarly investigations into Tamil prosody that have been completed and identifies areas necessitating further inquiry. Tholkappiyam’s ‘Seyyuliyal’ stands as the foundational text in prosodic studies. The analysis further elucidates the progression of prosody within subsequent grammatical treatises and examines prosodic elements embedded within literary works.
