Abstract

Thiruvedikudi Vedapuriswarar Temple is located in the Thiruvaiyaru taluk of Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu. The complete structure and history of the temple is explained based on the field study done on the temple. The name of Lord Shiva who is the source here is Vedapuriswarar. The Goddess is seated in a separate shrine in the Mangaiyarkarasi temple. Inscriptions show that kings like Adithan I, Paranthakan I and Rajaraja I were involved in the restoration of this temple. The history of this temple said to be the place of worship of Brahman. It is also the destination sung by Thirugnanasambandar and Thirunavukkarasar. The article details the special features of the temple and the traditional Tamil architecture.
