Abstract

Research studies indicate that there are approximately more than five thousand languages in use in the world today. Each of these resource-rich languages exists in practice with its own unique phonological structures, morphological structures, and semantic systems. In this context, when comparing a word and its meaning in one language with another language, there are many complexities involved. This can be observed at all levels - phonology, morphology, semantics, and syntax. The reason for this is that words and their meanings vary according to society and according to the context of usage. This study explains contextual semantics related to the research fields of language use and usage context.
