சித்தர்களின் சமுதாய நோக்கு
Abstract
This paper will discuss the social mindset that inherits in Tamil Siddhas songs and their outlook on an ideal and peaceful society. The Siddhas were extraordinary personalities that did not abide by materialistic lifestyles and constantly tried different things going around the self-imposed limits. They questioned and condemned the social caste, religious and ritual which were corrupting society through their simple yet deep songs. The Siddhas did not believe in atheism but were strong believers of the unity of humanity who stated that human kind is one and God is one. Thirumular, Agathiyar, Siva Vakkiyar, Agappey Siddhar, Kakapusundar, Pampaatti Siddhar, Konganar, and Pattinathar strongly criticized caste discrimination and gender inequality in their verses. They stressed on ethical life, condemned false ascetics who cheated people and demanded unity among religions. The social concern that is evident in their songs is that of social reformation and moral uprightness, and it is a strong weapon of constructing social harmony. The article concludes that the literary works of Siddhas were essentially based on encouraging the abolition of untouchability, the necessity of rightful living, and religious harmony, which are sharply topical in modern society.
