Abstract

What is identified as Muchchanthi literature is a new type of literary tradition that stands between the oral literary tradition and the written literary tradition. Oral songs are found to be authorless and generalized. However, the aforementioned new type of literary tradition has authors. Additionally, these are written as handwritten manuscripts and are also printed and sold as publications. These have been predominantly sung at occasions where people gather, targeting the common people. The poets belonging to this literary tradition have been called by the people as “poets who compose songs for the people.”
