Abstract

Metaphysical concepts are those that guide human life's activities within a structured order. Among the theories discovered through human effort, metaphysics is ancient. In the two types of life paths — household life and renunciation — human society is predominantly engaged in household life, which is worldly pleasure. Some individuals follow the renounced life. Valluvar, who was involved in worldly life, created the Tirukkural with the thought that worldly life should be lived simply, benefiting from the renounced way of life. Among the four virtues — virtue (Aram), wealth (Porul), love (Inbam), and household (Veedu) — the concept of household varies across religious doctrines, which is why Valluvar did not define it separately in the Kural.
