Abstract

In all the actions that take place in people’s lives, psychological elements lie at the core of the human mind. These psychological factors often form the basis for many illnesses. In such circumstances, defence mechanisms play an important role in protecting individuals. Such defence mechanisms can be observed in the fictional works of Ira. Natarasan. Psychology encompasses both the externally observable behaviours of a person and the internal processes that arise from thought. Ki. Nagarajan points out a definition provided by a psychologist: “Psychology is the systematic study of a human being’s external behaviours in order to explain how they are connected with the internal flow of thoughts, and how they are affected by the events that occur in the surrounding environment” (Psychology, p. 5).
