Abstract

Sanctifying human beings and refining the inner self is the very purpose of worship. History states that Lord Jesus, the embodiment of divinity, incarnated to guide people towards righteousness and to remove them from sin, thereby purifying them. The dictionary defines iraimai (divinity) as “godliness.” All concepts related to the divine — such as divine awareness, devotion, worship, and faith — fall within the scope of divinity. Among Sangam literary works, Paripāṭal is one of the earliest. It is the only anthology in which songs are compiled under the names of deities. Fourteen songs have been discovered under the headings “Tirumāl” and “Ceṟvēl.” Therefore, it is beyond doubt that this literary work is filled with messages related to divinity.
