Abstract
"Let us live facing anything; today’s courage
Will drive away even the sorrows of tomorrow…" — with such value-oriented thoughts…
Among the Five Great Epics (Aimperumkappiyam), the first two — Silappathikaram and Manimekalai — are closely connected both in plot and in historical period. Manimekalai is a revolutionary epic, a guiding text that leads towards transformation, similar to Silappathikaram. However, the path of revolution emphasized in Silappathikaram differs from that of Manimekalai. Silappathikaram conveys political revolution, whereas Manimekalai highlights social revolution.
