Abstract

A writer does not create their works as mere arrangements of letters. Instead, they craft them with the purpose of reforming human life and shaping culture. This article examines the status of women as depicted in the novel Aḷam, focusing particularly on Sundarambal’s hard work. After her husband leaves, she continues to work independently as a laborer and claims her rightful place. The novel portrays her efforts and the life circumstances of her daughters from the perspective of womanhood.
