Abstract

Social institutions are structured to fulfill the needs or objectives of the people within a society. These institutions organize essential social functions in a systematic and sustainable manner, aiming to meet the fundamental requirements of the community. Over time, they establish rules and practices that people accept and follow, thereby creating a stable framework for collective functioning. Within society, several types of institutions exist, including family, religion, economy, governance, and education. These five are considered indispensable for social stability. Based on this framework, the present study examines the religious institutions represented in Maduraikanchi and analyzes their role and functioning within the social structure of that period.
