Abstract

Short literary works can be regarded as New Classical Literature. Classical literature and art possess unique characteristics distinct from other literary forms. They stand apart due to their originality, refined expression, and their lasting influence through generations. These classical works have been revered not only in their own period of creation but also in later ages, serving as guiding models for subsequent literary and artistic traditions. They impart noble and valuable messages to humankind and are grounded in clear grammatical and aesthetic traditions. These are considered the fundamental qualities of classical literature and art.
In Tamil literary history, Sangam literature embodies these very characteristics. From the time of scholars like Parithimaar Kalaignar to the present day, many researchers have recognized and written extensively about these features. Hundreds of books have been published, enriching and illuminating the greatness of Sangam literature.
