Abstract

The quest to fully understand the history and culture of the ancient Tamils continues even today. Over the past hundred years, numerous cultural artefacts belonging to prehistoric human civilization have been continuously discovered across Tamil Nadu. In particular, within Cuddalore district, several loose sculptures dating back to the Vijayanagara period have been unearthed. These artefacts not only provide valuable insights into the cultural and artistic heritage of that period but also suggest that Cuddalore and its surrounding regions were once under the administrative influence of the Vijayanagara rulers. Such findings greatly contribute to reconstructing the cultural and historical narrative of the Tamil region through archaeology.
