Abstract

Earlier literary works often serve as the foundation for the emergence of later literary forms. No literary genre appears suddenly; before a new genre emerges, its essential elements are usually documented and evolved through pre-existing grammar, literature, and stylistic conventions. In this context, the Kamba Ramayanam, an epic (Itihasa), contains several instances of other literary forms embedded within its structure. This article examines and highlights these subordinate literary elements in the Kamba Ramayanam, illustrating how the epic incorporates, adapts, and preserves various literary genres within its narrative framework. The study draws attention to how Kamba Ramayanam integrates other forms, such as moral poetry, dialogues, heroic ballads, and descriptive passages, showing the continuity and evolution of Tamil literary traditions. By analyzing specific sections and verses of the epic, the research demonstrates that literary forms are cumulative, evolving from earlier works and grammatical principles.
