Abstract

Occupation refers to any activity that generates income to sustain human life. From the time humans appeared, they began performing occupations to meet their basic needs. Initially, hunting was the primary occupation. After the advent of civilization, people engaged in agriculture, weaving, plowing, fishing, and medical professions, among other types of work. In ancient times, trade and commerce also emerged, allowing goods to be exchanged and sold. The development of these occupations and the spread of commercial activity are described in Pattinappaalai. This article aims to study and analyze these occupational practices as recorded in the work, providing insight into the livelihood patterns of early Tamil society.
