Abstract

All regions of the world do not share the same geographical and climatic characteristics. Snowy regions and Tamil regions have different environmental features. Snowy regions are located near the Earth’s North and South poles, while Tamil Nadu lies approximately in the mid-region of the Earth, experiencing high temperatures. Ancient Tamils classified the Tamil landscape into five types: Kurinji, Mullai, Palai, Marutham, and Neithal. These landscape divisions, along with the respective climatic conditions, influenced the customs, attire, food habits, and cultural practices of the people living in each region.
