Abstract

"Namah Shivaya Vaazhga! Nadhan Vaazhga!!" – This Anjezhuthu mantra was first praised by Manickavasagar, followed by the praise of Nadhan’s essence. As per Thiru Gnanasambandar, “In all four Vedas, the ultimate reality is the name of Nadhan – Namah Shivaya” (3-49:1).

A debate among Saiva scholars continues even today: Should the Anjezhuthu mantra be pronounced starting with the city – Kshanam Shivai – or with the pinnacle – Shivaya Nam? This article details the method, form, meaning, and benefits of the Anjezhuthu mantra through the study of Thirumurais and Vaishnavite Siddhanta scriptures.
