Abstract

The term Maravar generally refers to the warrior community. Those with the valor and virtue to uphold righteousness are often called Maravars. Many Maravars, who fought bravely on the battlefield and protected their land after victory, were highly praised by the poets of the Sangam era. This article explores the honor and prestige of such Maravars as reflected in Puranaanooru and other Sangam literary works.
