Historical Significance of Kulasekara Azhwar
குலசேகர ஆழ்வாரின் வரலாற்று வைபவம்
Abstract
Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world, and Saivism and Vaishnavism are its two principal branches. To preserve and propagate these traditions, the Nayanmars and Azhwars incarnated. There were sixty-three Nayanmars and twelve Azhwars. They were born into various castes and communities, yet their devotion to their respective deities transcended social hierarchy and distinctions. Through their grace, rulers, priests, merchants, farmers, shepherds, and bards all received divine favor, demonstrating that caste and religious differences hold no significance in true worship. In this context, in the region of Chera Nadu, Perumakkodathaiyar was born as a Nayanmar in the royal lineage, and Kulasekara Azhwar was born as one of the twelve Azhwars. Their lives illustrate devotion that rises above caste, community, and social distinctions, spreading the universal message of equality in divine worship.
