Abstract
Sangam literature records both clan-based communal societies and individual-based property-owning societies. In these works, the decline of clan-based communities coincides with the emergence of property-based communities. In the final stage of Sangam literature, the society of the Vēntars (kings and nobility) exhibits a fully developed property-owning social structure. This article aims to explore the emergence and developmental stages of property-based society through the lens of Sangam texts.
