Abstract

The character of ‘Father’ in Prabanjan’s short story collection “Appavin Vesti” (Father’s Dhoti) serves as a significant representation of family values and the impact of social changes. This paper examines the traits, emotional expressions, and the role played by the father within the family structure. The ‘Father’ character is portrayed as a figure embodying tradition, responsibility, and moral strength, while also acting as a guide and support system for the family members. His life experiences reflect the psychological and social transformations brought about by changing societal conditions. Through this character, the author highlights the essence of fatherhood and its importance in maintaining familial harmony. This study further explores how the character of ‘Father’ reveals the subtleties of human relationships and the cultural values of Tamil society. Ultimately, it emphasizes the humanistic elements present in Prabanjan’s literary works.
