Abstract

Divine worship occupies an indispensable place in the religious culture of the Tamils. Religious literature in Tamil was created to engage people in divine worship and to cultivate their minds. Religious literature expresses the faith of the people belonging to that particular religion. Each religion has focused on the miraculous divine plays (tiruvilayadals) of their respective deities and has portrayed them in various literary works. Some such divine plays can be seen through Tiruvasagam, one of the Shaiva literary works, in this article.
