Abstract

During the Post-Sangam period (250 - 600 CE), the eighteen minor literary works (Pathinenkilkanakku) were created. Among the ethical treatises (11) found in these works, there are numerous thoughts related to food and health. Particularly, works like IniyavaiNarpadhu (Forty Sweet Things), Innanarpadhu (Forty Bitter Things), Acharakkovai, and MudumozhiKanchi have emphatically recorded the importance of food. This article elaborates on the beneficial aspects of food, the dietary habits and customs of the Tamils during the Post-Sangam period, and other health-promoting food-related concepts.
