Abstract

Sangam literature contains clear thoughts within itself regarding various fields such as the way of life, civilization, and culture of the ancient Tamil people. Through the verses created by Sangam poets against the backdrop of nature, they help us understand not only the inner and outer aspects of life but also the customs related to way of life. In that context, among the customs mentioned in Sangam literature, the most important is the worship methods of the Tamils. It can be said that the worship practice, which was nature worship in the beginning, gradually evolved and reached completion in idol worship over time.
