Abstract

In the twentieth century, the novel has gained a prominent place in the history of Tamil literature. In earlier times, epics, puranas, and itihasas occupied an important position in literature, but today the novel has taken that place. For a novel to achieve excellence, the characters presented in it must be lively and realistic. A novel that excels in character creation is considered superior even to a novel that merely possesses a strong storyline.
