Caste Structure in Modern Development
நவீனகால வளர்ச்சியில் சாதியக் கட்டமைப்பு
Abstract
There are only two castes and no others" is an ancient Tamil saying that exists in common usage. However, today it can be said that there are hardly any humans without caste attachment. In society today, castes have gained somewhat elevated status, formed associations, taken shape as political parties, and are dividing the nation. Even though many years have passed since the country gained independence, and despite scientific progress bringing world events into one's home, humans have not abandoned the superstitious practice of caste. In society, people are categorized as belonging to higher castes and lower castes, with people themselves enslaving and sacrificing other people. Society will not progress through caste conflicts. This caste division among people has existed since ancient times. Tolkappiyar mentions that in those times there were four divisions: kings, Brahmins, merchants, and Vellalars.
