Abstract

Dramas written in a manner suitable for both reading and performance are poetic dramas, which are primarily suitable for reading. Though such dramas are in verse form, they are structured according to prosodic rules. Poetic dramas in verse form are featured extensively. The drama 'Manonmaniyam' is the first poetic drama composed in verse form. Poetic dramas are mostly created with the thought of addressing social problems and creating a human society without caste differences. Among them, A. Ganesan emphasizes in his spiritually-based poetic dramas about Vallalar, Thayumanavar, Annanmarar Swami's story, and Ramanuja that a casteless society should be established. Examining this perspective forms the objective of this article.
