Abstract

All Sangam literature songs are categorized by different tinai (landscape themes) and turai (subject categories). In Aingurunuru Veripattu, the heroine and her friend describe the frenzied dance performance as an ecstatic dance that they fear. In Aingurunuru, the friend participates in the veriyadal (frenzied dance) event both as a way of telling about the heroine's secret love life and as a way of paving the path to marital life.
