Tiruvannamalai Giri (Mountain) Circumambulation
திருவண்ணாமலை கிரி (மலை) வலம்
Abstract
Among the five elemental temples (Pancha Bhoota Sthalams) dedicated to Shiva, Tiruvannamalai shines as the fire (Agni) temple. The mountain in this sacred place, standing at 1,065 feet in height, is worshipped as a Shiva lingam in its form, and is renowned for the practice of circumambulating it to receive divine grace. Every month on the full moon day (Pournami), we can witness throngs of devotees participating in the mountain circumambulation. It is customary to perform the mountain circumambulation not only on full moon days but also on ordinary days, during festival periods, and on new moon days (Amavasai).
