Abstract

Among the existing Tamil grammar texts, Tolkappiyam stands alone as the most ancient in terms of time and the one enriched with numerous commentaries. In this text, many rare words appear - some that were transmitted to author Tolkappiyar by ancient scholars, and others that Tolkappiyar himself created. In this manner, the word "Enmanar" which appears in seventy-three places in Tolkappiyam is the subject matter that this article has undertaken to examine.
