The Hero and Heroine Concepts in Aandal’s Hymns

Abstract

Being two eyes in Tamil life, both internal and external, inner life was considered to belong to everyone. Men and women could be united physically and mentally. In the expression of inner life, unique qualities were defined by society for women. In this way, if Andal dedicated her inner life to Thirumal, if she saw her devotion towards Thirumal as love, she considered Thirumalai as the hero and herself as his heroine, and surrendered herself completely with her mind. This article examines the sins of the hero and heroine in the songs sung by Andal, who worshipped the Lord.
