Abstract

This article examines the status and development of feminism in contemporary Tamil research trends. While the world is formed by both genders and should function with equality, society continues to oppress women significantly. In early times, various restrictions were imposed on women, and widows were isolated. Reformers like Bharathiyar and Periyar fought for women’s rights, emphasizing education, liberation, and equality. Sangam poetry and Thirukkural emphasize concepts like wifely duties, chastity, and family care. Today, women are creating new feminism through works that express their own experiences. Even now, poets and writers criticize how women lose their identity within the framework of home, husband, and children, being limited to subordinate positions. In conclusion, feminist theories identify oppression against women and pave the path for progress, believing in an egalitarian life in society.
