Abstract

Varmakalai is a martial art and medical system from the Tamil tradition. It teaches techniques to heal or harm using key points of the body called “varmangal” or pressure points. It combines elements of self-defense, massage, and alternative medicine. This article examines who are the Varmaniyars, Varmana points, the qualifications of Varmana students, and what happens if Varmana is touched through Siddha songs.Varmam is an ancient medical and martial art originating in the Tamil tradition. Its aim is to identify the main nerve points, nadis, and energy centers of the body and stimulate or relax them to improve physical and mental well-being. This art, which has many varieties such as PaduVarmam, ThoduVarmam, ThatuVarmam, NokkuVarmam, is used to restore the body’s vitality, cure diseases, and for self-defense.
