Abstract

The oldest Tamil literature is Sangam literature. During the Sangam period, kings were known for their generosity and virtue. Information about such generosity and virtue can be found in inscriptions and copper plates. Both the people and the kings of the Sangam period wanted to provide material to poets to establish their fame and alleviate poverty. The study of the context in which these generosity and virtue took place is the summary of this article.
