Abstract

In Maruthanilam songs, various occupations are specifically highlighted, including planting work, plowing work, cattle herding, farmers harvesting rice ears, fishing, angling with fishing rods, separating and drying straw, the washerman’s occupation of bleaching clothes, fishing methods, and other such trades. Among these, agricultural work stands out as the most prominent in Maruthanilam. This is because Marutham refers to cultivated fields and field-related areas, making this occupation particularly significant and
well-regarded.
