Abstract
The Indian nation is experiencing a renaissance in its art, science, and cultural spheres, with its contributions gaining increasing recognition on the global stage. A critical component of this cultural resurgence is the translation of our rich and diverse cultural and intellectual heritage into various languages, facilitating broader appreciation and understanding. India has a long-standing tradition of excellence in translation, reflecting its multilingual heritage and diverse literary traditions. However, this process is not without its challenges. This article delves into the specific difficulties encountered in translating Tamil literature into Assamese. By examining linguistic, cultural, and contextual obstacles, the article aims to highlight the complexities involved in this cross-linguistic endeavour. Additionally, it proposes strategies and methodologies to effectively address these challenges, ensuring that the essence and nuances of Tamil literature are faithfully preserved and conveyed to Assamese readers. Through this exploration, the article seeks to contribute to the broader discourse on translation studies and enhance the appreciation of India’s rich literary tapestry across different linguistic communities.
