Abstract

This article is structured to present the records of feminine-gendered living beings mentioned in Tolkappiyar’s Marapiyal (section on convention/usage) through Sangam literature. Tolkappiyam structures Marapiyal into young names, masculine names, and feminine names. Among these, the following verse (nūṟpā) explains the living beings that receive feminine names.
